By MyFM's Rick Michaels - Bellingham residents looked over an increase of around five percent and then approved a spending package for the town that totals 55-point-eight million dollars for the next fiscal year. At the Annual Town Meeting, residents went over a total of 22-articles reflecting a hike in spending of just over two-and-a-half million dollars from the current fiscal budget, which ends in two-weeks. Bellingham residents also approved a zoning change, the first step in the development of an over 55 active adult residential community, to be built on the grounds of the New England Country Club Golf Course. The developer, Bonvie Homes, held informational sessions with town officials and residents where concepts and concerns were aired with a lot of positive feedback. Ron Bonvie thanked the Bellingham community for its’support of Article 19. A two-thirds majority vote was needed to amend the town's bylaws, which did have the unanimous support of the Board of Selectmen, Planning Board and the Finance committee. Bonvie says it’s hard to say exactly how many homes will be built, expected to be in the hundreds. However, he says 50-percent of the entire property will remain Open Space.
